An alternative to Atlassian Ventures for smaller businesses

This converts to equity with a cap and discount. Founders must also grant certain rights to Atlassian.
We’re offering smaller loans with no obligation to hand over shares and no pressure to hit milestones.

We were once where you are

A fast, no-fuss loan would’ve really helped. Instead we had to do side jobs to pay the bills, which slowed us down. We started CollabSoft Ventures to become the lender we wish had funded us.

Perks of working with CollabSoft Ventures

Founder-friendly funding

Get a small to medium-sized loan with no fees, minimal interest, and no need to give up control, rights, or ownership.

Easier than traditional funding options

No red tape, pitch deck, or exit strategy required. If we like your app and want to work with you, we’ll give you the loan.

Full autonomy, no oversight

You don’t have to give us financial statements or explain how you’re spending the loan. But we’re here to help if you need us.

What's in it for us?

Stronger alliances

If we both like working together, we can deepen our collaboration. But there’s no contractual obligation or expectation from our side. If you have no desire to ever share your growth, that’s fine too.

A better, bolder ecosystem

Innovation in the Atlassian Community has been slowing down. By making it easier for new vendors to get capital, we can reinvigorate the Marketplace, filling it with passionate entrepreneurs forging the next generation of apps.

CollabSoft Ventures vs Atlassian Ventures: which is better for you?

First off, Atlassian Ventures is great. You get a fair rate with good terms and we encourage everyone to apply for an Atlassian Ventures loan. But if they turn you down, we’re your backup.

Atlassian Ventures

If you need a lot of money, you’re aiming for rapid growth, and you plan to raise more capital later, a convertible note is a good choice.

You have to give up a slice of your company. Cap/discount terms can backfire if you don’t negotiate them carefully.

The maturity date of the convertible note is usually between 12 and 24 months.

Interest is 6%.

You have to provide Atlassian with financial statements every quarter.

You give Atlassian the right to participate in future rounds of funding to maintain their ownership percentage.

If you get an acquisition offer from a third party, you have to tell Atlassian about it.

Atlassian will give you access to ecosystem leaders who can help you grow.

CollabSoft Ventures

If you need a bit of money to reduce your day job hours and work on your app, or hire someone to help, a founder-friendly loan could suit you better.

You keep 100% of your company.

You get 6 months before you have to start repaying the loan.

Interest is at the Euribor base rate, usually between 0% and 2%.

No need to send or explain anything.

Not applicable because we’re not taking shares.

If you get an acquisition offer from a third party, it’s none of our business.

We’ll happily share our learnings or connect you to our network of vendors and mentors.

“I’ve grown many apps on the Atlassian Marketplace from zero to millions. CollabSoft Ventures is my way of rekindling the entrepreneurial flair that made this community the greatest. Someone’s working on a great idea right now, and if their boss won’t give them the freedom nor support to let it flourish, I want to help them quit and be their own boss.”

Chris Cooke, Marketing Director and Entrepreneur

“We started CollabSoft Ventures because the Atlassian Community has given us so much and we want to give something back. This community empowers everyone to go from bedroom developer to successful founder. CollabSoft Ventures aims to make that success happen faster.”

Remie Bolte, Founder and Lead Developer
