Forging a new path for our Atlassian apps

Over the summer we’ve been future-proofing our apps and are pleased to announce the release of our first app for Forge: Figma for Confluence - Lite.

Atlassian has invested heavily in the Forge platform, applying pressure to vendors to port all apps there as quickly as possible. We’re glad we’ve waited until the right time for our customers and our team.

Given the effort required for this work, we’ve done some prioritizing and decided to focus on our most popular apps. As such, we’re retiring 20 apps that didn’t make much of an impact. Given how few installs they have, few users should be affected, but consider this notice that the following apps will be sunsetted on July 1st, 2026:

  1. Apple Keynote for Confluence
  2. Calendly meeting planner
  3. Conversations for ITSM
  4. Deepnote for Confluence
  5. Design bundle for Confluence
  6. Dynamic Modules for Jira
  7. Github Gists for Confluence
  8. Hotjar for Confluence
  9. Invision Prototypes for Confluence
  10. Marvel Prototypes for Confluence
  11. Nagios for Jira
  12. Netlify for Confluence
  13. Octopus.do Sitemaps for Confluence
  14. Pitch for Confluence
  15. Presentation bundle for Confluence
  16. Prezi for Confluence
  17. Protopie for Confluence
  18. QR for Confluence
  19. Sharing Canva in Confluence
  20. Sticky Notes for Confluence

This focus will allow us to concentrate on the development of our most important apps: Figma for Confluence, Figma for Jira, and Version & Component Sync.

Now that we’re satisfied with the Forge platform (and have ported our first app successfully) we’ll be releasing Forge versions for all of our remaining apps. We’ll do this as quickly as we can without disrupting our customers’ experience. A smooth transition is in everyone’s interests.

For full transparency, here are the benefits and challenges of the new platform (borrowed from K15t).

Benefits of Forge

  • Stronger integrations: Forge allows for closer, more natural integrations with Atlassian products, paving the way for better app experiences.
  • Built on Atlassian infrastructure: apps running directly on Atlassian's systems benefit from their continued investment in enhanced data security and streamlined compliance, earning the "Runs on Atlassian" badge.
  • Faster, more sustainable innovation: completing this transition will enable us to develop and release new features more rapidly, leveraging the full and future capabilities of Forge.

Challenges we're addressing

  • Time-consuming transition: moving our apps to a new platform is a significant undertaking. This will slow our feature delivery in the short term, before we can accelerate innovation again.
  • Feature adaptations: some custom functionalities built on Connect may require adaptation or even a complete reimagining to work on Forge.
  • New cost model: Forge introduces infrastructure costs for compute and storage. While this may necessitate adjustments to how resource-intensive features are delivered, it also presents an opportunity to optimize performance.

Data Center development

Atlassian recently announced that they are sunsetting the self-hosted version of their platforms, Atlassian Data Center, by 2029. As a result, we’ve decided to stop releasing new features for Data Center. We will continue to support our apps, matching Atlassian’s timeline. If you’re migrating to Atlassian Cloud, we’re happy to help with any migration support you may require.

Our commitment to the future

We’re dedicated to providing the best possible experience throughout this transition, without compromising the quality you expect from us. We value your continued trust in our apps and recognize their importance in your team's efficiency. This transition is not merely a requirement, but an investment in the future of your experience with our products.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. 🙂
